Overview

What we deliver

Indian sandstone is one of the most loved natural stones for English gardens — warm tones, soft texture and a timeless feel that flatters both period and contemporary homes. We hand-pick batches for colour consistency and lay every patio on a properly graded sub-base and full mortar bed.

Hand-picked riven and sawn sandstone
Properly graded MOT type 1 sub-base
Full wet mortar bed — no spot bedding
Falls planned for clean rainwater run-off
Pointed with brush-in or hand-pointed mortar

Why sandstone?

Sandstone has natural warmth and character no manufactured slab can quite match. Riven faces feel traditional and rustic; sawn and honed finishes feel cleaner and more modern. It ages beautifully when laid well.

How we lay it

We excavate to the correct depth, install a compacted MOT sub-base, then lay each slab on a full wet mortar bed — never four corners and a blob. Joints are kept consistent, falls are set to push water away from the house, and edges are restrained.

Finishing & sealing

Once cured, patios can be sealed to deepen colour, reduce staining and make ongoing maintenance easier. We talk through whether sealing is right for your stone and setting.

Common questions

FAQs

How long does a sandstone patio last?+

When laid on a proper sub-base and full mortar bed, decades. Most failures come from poor preparation, not from the stone itself.

Will it go slippery?+

Sandstone can develop algae in shaded, damp spots. An annual gentle wash and an optional sealer keep it safe and looking fresh.

Do I need planning permission?+

Usually no for a domestic garden patio, as long as it's permeable or drains to a soft area. We'll advise on your specific case.
